It’s been a whirlwind of a summer, and between the long commutes to my new office to jetting away every weekend,I haven’t had a minute to sit down and think about my blog. Or anything besides the daily grind, really.
My health has been on my mind. Not surprisingly, I’ve gained 10 lbs in the past 6 months, am exhausted from my commute, spend a ton of cash eating out while on the go, and my back and neck aches constantly from sitting in the car so many hours a day. I thought it was all part of the adjustment process until I stumbled across this post on the ClassPass blog.
I started researching Whole30 and so many of the testimonials resonated with me. I eat “healthy” and exercise “regularly” so I was struggling to figure out what was wrong – why couldn’t I control my weight, and why did I feel so crummy? I bought It Starts With Food and immediately dove in. If you’re not familiar with Whole30, the idea is to eliminate sugar, grains, legumes, dairy and alcohol from your diet for 30 days. The philosophy has a solid scientific foundation that eating junk – and too many carbs/sugar – throws your hormones out of whack, which wreaks a long slow havoc on your body. That’s why the last decade of boozing and occasional (ok, maybe more than occasional) junk food eating slowing crept up on me.
I’m now on Day 5 on Whole30 and I’m obsessed. My skin already looks clearer, I have tons of energy and I’ve been sleeping much better (and able to fall asleep earlier too!). Yes, there have been moments when I wanted to kill someone (or myself) and I did have some carb withdrawal headaches the first three days, but overall I’m really surprised at how easy it has been.
I just devoured the salad above for lunch – delicious!
Have any of you tried it? What are your thoughts?
